MATSUURA MACHINERY CELEBRATES 90 YEARS OF INNOVATION, HERITAGE, AND CUSTOMER COMMITMENT

Matsuura Machinery is proud to celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2025, marking nearly a century of innovation, heritage, and a commitment to customers worldwide.

Founded in 1935 in Fukui, Japan, Matsuura began under the leadership of engineer and first president Toshio Matsuura, whose passion for manufacturing established the foundation for decades of technological breakthroughs.

Over the past nine decades, Matsuura has pioneered advancements in precision, automation, and hybrid manufacturing.

Among its milestones:

  • *1974 – Launched Japan’s first mass-produced vertical machining center, the MC-750V.
  • *Late 1970s – Introduced the world’s first 20,000 RPM spindle, when most machines reached just 4,000 RPM.
  • *1989 – Established global leadership in high-speed machining with the FX-5.
  • *1991 – Anticipated labor challenges and introduced the MAM72 series of 5-axis machining centers with pallet systems and large tool matrices capable of 72 hours of unmanned operation.
  • *1998 – Developed the LX-1, Matsuura’s first linear-motor machine, offering ultra-high speed and precision.
  • *2004 – Introduced the world’s first hybrid metal 3D printer, the LUMEX 25C, combining additive and subtractive manufacturing in one platform.

These innovations and many others continue to define Matsuura as a company that anticipates customer needs and delivers technologies that change the industry.

Today, under the leadership of third-generation president Katsutoshi Matsuura and his son Yuto, the company continues to expand globally, while remaining true to the pioneering spirit of its founder. Matsuura’s portfolio now includes advanced 5-axis machining solutions, automation-ready platforms, and the LUMEX series of hybrid additive machines, all designed for efficiency, reliability, and lights-out production.

“Our 90th anniversary is not just a milestone for Matsuura, it is a reflection of the partnerships and trust we have built with our customers, distributors, and employees over the years,” said Billy Bogue, President of Matsuura USA. “The principles established by our founder still guide us today. We remain focused on innovation, service, and delivering the kind of technology that helps manufacturers thrive.”

Matsuura has also long recognized the importance of sustainability. In the early 1980s, the company modernized its logo to reflect its commitment to protecting the Earth for future generations. The three vivid green ovals represent Man, Earth, and Technology, while the logo’s 23.45-degree tilt mirrors the axis of the Earth, symbolizing balance and responsibility.

“As we look ahead, our mission is clear,” Bogue added. “We will continue to honor our heritage while pushing the boundaries of technology to support the next generation of manufacturers.”

For 90 years, Matsuura has stood at the intersection of tradition and innovation. The company’s enduring legacy of craftsmanship, technology leadership, and customer commitment means manufacturers can continue to rely on Matsuura today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
