MX-330 PC10 Increases Production & Efficiencies at Assurance Manufacturing

Established in March 1966, Assurance Manufacturing is a custom precision sheet metal fabricating, stamping, machining, and assembly company in Minneapolis, MN. For nearly 60 years, Assurance Manufacturing maintains their commitment to customer service with excellence in quality.

Why did Assurance Manufacturing invest in the Matsuura MX-330 PC10?

Assurance recently installed the Matsuura MX-330 PC10 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center. The MX-330 5-Axis provides an effortless transition to 5 face machining for customers accustomed to traditional 3-axis cutting on a vertical machining center.

The company succeeded by reducing operations with the Matsuura MX-330 PC10. Assurance transitioned three operations into one using the MX-330. The combination of 10 pallets and 90 tools, unmanned running, and larger tool capacity contributed to the company’s success.

“Our orders grew from 300 to 2,500 pieces and we needed a way to optimize it, make it more efficient, run lights out, and do more operations,” said Jeff Reinardy, Production Manager for Assurance Manufacturing.

The MX-330 is affordably priced and offers a large work envelope in a compact footprint. The MX-330’s exceptional ergonomics, intuitive controls and full simultaneous 5-axis capability allows machine shops to meet their customers’ increasing demand for shorter lead-times and higher tolerances across multiple faces.

Need for Increased Production

“The MX-330 PC10 increased our production and helped us handle a lot this year,” Reinardy said. “We’ve increased our production ten-fold.”

The MX-330 delivers machining center versatility with a standard Matsuura-made high accuracy spindle of 15,000 RPM with 48 ft-lbs. of torque. Optional 15,000 RPM with 88 ft-lbs. of torque and 20,000 RPM with 80 ft-lbs. of torque are available.

“You can do a lot of unattended time with a machine like this,” Reinardy added. “It’s been great for us, I can get something running in it, and there are so many parts you can load up with all the pallets, so you have a few hours before you even have to come back to it,” Reinardy explained.

Reliability and Tool Capacity

“The machine has been so reliable, I ran a recent order of 2,300 parts without changing a tool,”  Reinardy  explained.  “When you can just walk away and have a 60 to 70 hour run of machine time, no tool breaks, and the parts are the same every time.”

“With 90 tools you can set up multiple jobs and never take out a tool, so it makes my programming a little easier,” Reinardy  added.

Reduced Setup Time

“Once you get the job programmed, you reduce your setup time, you increase your productivity, and it’s just been great for us since we started out the year behind, and we’re now actually catching back up,” Reinardy explained. “We ran a lot of lights out– we go home we let the machine run and we can get 15 hours a day out of this Matsuura for months at a time.”

Looking Ahead

“We’ve had the MX-330 PC10 here for about seven months of running time and we’ll probably look to get another one in the future if our production keeps increasing,” Reinardy said.

No Sacrifice of Quality or Precision

“We  chose Matsuura since our jobs were increasing so drastically and so quickly, we needed something right away but without sacrificing quality,” Reinardy explained. “The MX-330 PC10 has been a great machine, top-notch, it holds accuracy and it’s everything that we expected out of it plus more.”

Local Distributor, Productivity, Inc.

“Matsuura was a good choice for us and we called Productivity as they partner with Matsuura to sell their machines,” Reinardy said. “We went to talk to Productivity, showed them our parts and what size capacity we would need and we came to the conclusion this MX-330 PC10 would work great.”

Matsuura Machines Readily Available

“We also chose Matsuura because they did a great job of having machines readily available,” Reinardy added. “Not a lot of machines were readily available and it was a big need for us because we were growing so fast, our customers were asking us if we could provide, and we needed to increase the capacity.”

Matsuura has many machines available to ship, including our most popular models. Please contact your exclusive Matsuura USA Distributor or [email protected] to learn more.

“So these guys had it on the floor and they could ship it to us within a month, instead of some other equipment we considered, but they were eight to nine months out and that would have made a big problem for us,” Reinardy explained.

Precision

“We make a lot of medical parts, so we need to be accurate and hold tight tolerances, and we held it at 2,300 parts so this has been a great machine,” Reinardy said.

Matsuura’s MAXIA Spindles

“The spindle has worked awesome and the accuracy is everything we’ve expected and more,” Reinardy added.

Matsuura is the original market leader in high-speed machines, (spindles of 12,000-rpm and above), having produced our first high-speed machine in the late 1970’s.

Matsuura Spindles are renowned for their enduring and accurate performance when cutting everything from aerospace aluminum, to hardened steels to exotic materials. Matsuura’s own Thermal Displacement Compensation Function assures repeatability in cut time and again over long production runs.
