MATSUURA’S MAXIA PROPRIETARY SPINDLES DELIVER HIGH-TORQUE & HIGH-SPEED MACHINING PRODUCTIVITY SOLUTIONS

St. Paul, MN (April 20, 2020) — Matsuura is the original market leader in high-speed machines, (spindles of 12,000-rpm and above), having produced our first high-speed machine in the late 1970s – an MC-300V machine fitted with a 30,000 RPM spindle. A 24,000 rpm built-in spindle for an MCM-400V was supplied in 1983, and a 75,000 rpm spindle in an MC-800V DC-EX1 twin-spindle model for an Aircraft Manufacturer (one spindle running at 4,500 rpm for roughing and the second high-speed unit for finishing) was delivered in 1986.

Matsuura’s first standard high-speed spindles were 15,000 rpm, 35 taper units on the company’s MC-510VSS machine. Deliveries of these began in 1986, but spindle speeds and taper size combinations have intensified since then.

Manufactured from an original design, our machines can perform both low-speed, high-torque cutting, and high-speed machining. The MAXIA logo is engraved on each spindle ‒ your assurance of premium quality, longevity of performance, and design.

Spindle design is key for all machining processes, but particularly 5-axis operations. When working with difficult to reach features that require tight tolerances, a rigid compact spindle design is essential to accomplishing the necessary specifications. Matsuura 5-axis machines are designed to allow the spindle to reach the center of the pallet with minimal interference. Also, the spindle needs to be thermally stable to minimize axial growth. Matsuura uses the temperature sensor and software to compensate for any thermal expansion.

Our spindle assembly rooms are Class 1,000 cleanrooms; this is the same class used in the production of semiconductors. The temperature in our cleanrooms is maintained at 21±1.  Final assembling is performed after spindle parts are thoroughly cleaned and are kept in a temperature-adjusting room for one day so that all parts have equal temperatures.

In the dedicated cleanroom ensures that spindle runout at the mouth is reduced to less than 1 micron. Grease lubrication (automatic greasing type) is employed for minimal maintenance, low-air consumption and environmental protection.

Matsuura Spindles are renowned for their enduring and accurate performance when cutting everything from aerospace aluminum, to hardened steels to exotic materials. Matsuura’s own Thermal Displacement Compensation Function assures repeatability in cut time and again over long production runs.

Matsuura carries a stock of service exchange spindles rebuilt to the latest design and to the same standard as new for all machine types in the US, including obsolete machines.
